Trees With Hidden Risks
As a home or property owner, one of the best ways to avoid liabilities with your trees is to understand them. Understanding the basics about a few common types of tree species’ will help you fix or recognize any problems they may be having which in turn can help you save time or money in the long run.
Apple & Crabapple: All the different types of apple trees contain seeds which are poisonous to dogs, cats, and people. This is especially true during the autumn months when leaves fall to the ground and are in danger of being chewed up by children or pets.
Black Walnut: The mold that grows on black walnut trees can be very hazardous to dogs. It has been known to make them very sick causing vomiting, diarrhea, and even seizures. If your dog likes to play with falling walnuts, make sure to rake them up consistently.
Types of Cherry Trees: If large volumes of leaves are chewed from these types of trees, cyanide poisoning can occur. This can be extremely hazardous to children. Symptoms have been known to include darkened gums, darkened urine, breathing problems, a weak pulse, and seizures.
