5 Steps for Spring Tree Care
There are a few factors and steps that all property owners should take if they’d like they’re tree to remain healthy and beautiful. These are a necessity for optimal tree growth and care. It’s especially important if your dealing with a freshly planted or younger tree.
Watering: Trees need regular watering, however not too much. It’s a very delicate balance. Too much and you can drown the roots, too little and you risk drought. Water is what’s needed by the roots in order to grow. The main goal here is to create fresh, moist soil without turning the area into a puddle.
Mulching: Make sure to add and replenish mulch as much as possible during your tree’s early years growing. Mulch is great because it helps keep grass out, moderates soil temperatures, and suppresses weeds.
Pruning: When we speak of pruning, we don’t mean randomly trimming branches on your tree. You should only be cutting branches that are disease/insect infested, or already dead.
Staking: If your tree is in an area where the weather is severe, staking may be a smart option for you. Stakes are usually only kept in place through one particular season. It’s not good to leave them in too long.
Protection for the tree trunk: If you’ve got trunk wraps such as burlap, remove them when the warm weather comes back around.
