Types of Nutrients Trees Need to Survive
Trees require nutrients in order to survive and grow. If the nutrients within soil are deficient, the tree may not grow properly and will most likely be defenseless to pests and disease. This lowers the survival-rate and lifespan considerably.
These nutrients are divided into two groups, macronutrients and micronutrients. Macronutrients are a necessity to trees in much larger amounts than micronutrients. These include:
- Nitrogen
- Phosphorus
- Potassium
- Calcium
- Magnesium
- Sulfur
Micronutrients include:
- Iron
- Manganese
- Zinc
- Copper
- Boron
- Chlorine
- Molybdenum
The need for fertilization is large because most stress exist in high stress conditions. This basically means areas where not much moisture is available.
