The Fall Foliage in Arden, NC
During the beginning of October the changes made to trees regarding their leaves are simply awe inspiring. The mountains in North Carolina are quite possibly the most beautiful in the country with their mix of unique colors each fall. The gorgeous colors of our trees in Arden, NC are a direct result of two factors. The first is the elevation not just of this area but nearby areas as well. The second is the climate conditions that are natural to the fall. Hotter weather will increase the length of time leaves need to change colors. On the other hand colder weather will accelerate it.
Another deciding factor in the fall foliage will be the change in daylight hours available to our trees. As daylight time reduces, so does the production of chlorophyll inside of our trees. Chlorophyll is the chemical that allows our trees to produce green leaves. During the fall, foliage will turn red, orange, brown, purple, and yellow as a result of a lack of chlorophyll. Less chlorophyll is produced because less sunlight is taken in. As children we often reflect on the changes that occur during the fall as being unhealthy for trees. However, as adults we learn that this process is natural, and safe for the tree.
