Finding out the Age of a Tree in Mills River, NC
Most people are aware that counting the circular rings on the inside of a tree’s stump is the best way to find the age of the tree. This is true because for every year of life a tree tends to grow a new section of bark. Perhaps what’s most interesting is the fact that arborists can now predict what the climate was like by observing the size, patterns, and appearance of the rings. More importantly how do you hypothesize on the age of currently healthy tree?
The answer is relatively simple; it begins by measuring the circumference of the trees trunk. When you start make sure that you go at least 3 feet above the ground. You want to make sure you measure around an area with no bumps, grooves, cracks, or wounds. When measuring in the metric system you will divide the total circumference by 1.25 or 2.5. Basically if the tree was surrounded by other trees you want to use 1.25, if however the tree was alone or far apart from others you want to use 2.5. This system should offer you a rough idea of how old your trees are. If you need help with a related tree service task call our arborists for help.
